Adelaide passed away Saturday, July 2, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family.
Adelaide Marie (Meredith) Willett, a great collector of friends had to say good bye.. But as she told her family, "I had 90 good years."
On February 23, 1921 Adelaide was born in the old Sacred Heart hospital in Eau Claire to Chester and Anne (Christianson) Meredith. She married George H. Willett June 28, 1941 in what is now called Trinity United Methodist Church in Chippewa Falls.
Adelaide and George traveled the USA in their Prowler trailer. They logged a total of 99,009 miles from 1975 through the spring of 1995 (she was a great record keeper). She continued to travel using Home Spun bus tours once widowed.
She acquired many friends over the years through both her travels and various activities such as her bowling. Adelaide met with her Chi Hi classmates (class of 1939) at lunch the first Monday of each month. She maintained a steady correspondence with an amazing amount of people. Included in these were her high school pen pals.
Adelaide was an avid reader and a regular at the library. She also loved to play games such as cards, dominoes, and dice. Her dice were always ready for whoever stopped by. She played scrabble on a daily basis either on the computer or on line. Each fall her attention turned to watching the Packers play. Adelaide baked lots of cookies and brownies that she constantly shared with family and friends. Many individuals have been the recipient of either a blanket or an afghan that she sewed, knitted, or crocheted.
Adelaide was an accomplished clothing seamstress and also sewed draperies professionally. She did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels, was a great supporter of the Chippewa County Historical Society, and was active in various community and church organizations over the years.
Adelaide is survived by her children Lynn (Stephen) Marquardt, Paul (Renee) Willett, Alan (Diana Stafford) Willett, Dean (Nadine) Willett, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
At Adelaide's request, a private family service will be held at a later date. The family gives thanks to all the kind and generous staff of St. Joseph's Hospital Home Hospice.
Adelaide's favorite charities are:
The Food Pantry, Public Radio, the Chippewa County Historical Society, and the Heyde Center for the Arts.
