Alice J. Lofgren, 89, of the village of Lake Hallie, Chippewa Falls, joined her Lord and loved ones in Heaven on Friday, November 10, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Hospital surrounded by family.
She was born December 9, 1927, in Owen, Wis. to Albert and Clara (Frantz) Schafer. Alice graduated from Owen High School and shortly after moved to Eau Claire. While working at Northern States Power (NSP) she met Robert Smith. They were married in June of 1954 in Eau Claire. They had a daughter, Jean, and five months later Robert unexpectedly died.
Alice worked at NSP as a telephone operator and later as a health insurance consultant for 28 years before moving to Iron River, Mich. She met John Lofgren at Camp Lake in Iron River and they were married on March 3, 1984. Together they owned and operated three different logging equipment businesses until John’s death in 2002. She then moved back to Chippewa Falls to be closer to many family members and friends.
In her free time Alice enjoyed crocheting and making handmade gifts for her family, and cooking for holiday dinners. She made afghans for all of her children and grandchildren and loved sending her grandchildren Christmas care-packages of her homemade fudge, breads and cookies.
Alice and Robert were charter members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Eau Claire where she enjoyed singing in the choir. While in Iron River she was active at First Lutheran Church and later at Faith Lutheran Church after returning to Chippewa Falls.
Alice is survived by her daughters, Jean (Ralph) Pfankuch of Chippewa Falls, Barbara Lindstrom of Escanaba, Mich., and Sharon (Richard) Lofgren Seeg of Marshfield, Mass.; grandchildren, Andrew (Erica) Pfankuch of Chippewa Falls, Julie Lindstrom of Apex, N.C., Eric (Tina) Lindstrom of Bark River, Mich., Richard (Nga) Seeg of New Orleans, La., Johnathan (Sasha) Seeg of Hopewell, N.J., and Dr. Jennifer Lofgren (Jeff DellaRovere) of Ann Arbor, Mich.; great-grandchildren, Calvin, Cody, Freya, Cassia, and Grace; brother, Eugene (Pearl) Schafer of Eau Claire; brother-in-law, Clinton “Pete” Schultz of Manitowoc, Wis.; and many other relatives and friends.
