He was born July 10, 1919 in Cadott to Lottie (Allison) and Emil Polzin. He grew up in the town of Sigel, where he got his basic education picking rock, and graduated from Cadott High School in 1937.

Following school, Al farmed on the family farm until entering the U.S. Army Air Force on September 15, 1941. He was stationed in Texas, California and India, serving until his honorable discharge on November 15, 1945.

Al married Betty Kriese on September 28, 1946 at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.

After his military service, he returned to the Chippewa Falls area, where he worked at National Presto Industries until 1957. He then worked at the Northern Center for the Developmentally Disabled until his retirement in 1984. For the past nine years, Al and Betty have lived at Eastridge Estates in Altoona and were blessed to have made many wonderful friends and consider them their "extended family."

He was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church and often mentioned what great fellowship there was when the church was built. He was proud to be part of a church family that was always there to help those in need.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Betty of Altoona; a daughter, Pamela Polzin of Eau Claire; a brother, Robert Polzin of Kansas City, Kansas; a granddaughter, Katherine Wennerberg of Eau Claire; family friend, Jody Wennerberg of Chippewa Falls; and several nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Myrtle Sparkes; a brother, Clarence Polzin; sisters-in-law, Marie and Darlene Polzin; brother-in-law, Elmer Sparkes; and a grandson, Carl Wennerberg.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 26 at Christ Lutheran Church, 467 E. Colome St., Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Mark Homp officiating. Interment with military honors provided by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
