Arlene J. Zumbrock, 90 of Chippewa Falls, died Friday, October 6, 2017 at the Rutledge Home in Chippewa Falls surrounded by her family and while under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice.
She was born July 6, 1927 in Chippewa Falls, the daughter of Emma (Gerber) and Robert McElroy. She was raised in the town of Arthur and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1946. Following high school, she worked as a housekeeper, then during WWII, worked at the Presto Munitions Plant, and also at Woolworths. She was also employed at Chippewa Falls A & P Grocery Store where she met the love of her life John A. Zumbrock. On June 1, 1953, the two were united in marriage at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls. They resided in Chippewa Falls where Arlene was later employed at Falls Bowl as a bartender for many years, and where she was affectionately known as “Ma.”
Arlene enjoyed bowling, golfing, yardwork and flower gardening. She also liked to cross-stitch and loved to travel, and took lots of photos of each place she visited. She was a devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Women of Faith/Lutheran Women’s Missionary League in Chippewa Falls.
She is survived by her three children, Pamela (Ronald) Pfankuch of Chippewa Falls, Thomas Zumbrock of Elliott Lake, Ontario, Roger (Lori) Zumbrock of Chippewa Falls; a sister, Elaine (Doran) Geissler of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Matthew (Tara) Pfankuch, Joseph (Kelly) Pfankuch, Ashley and Derek Zumbrock; four great-grandchildren, Savannah Bormann and Mason Pfankuch, Hannah and Hailey Pfankuch; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Donald in infancy; and her husband John on February 27, 1997.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 14 at Faith Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Charles Yunghans officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
Memorials in Arlene’s honor may go to Faith Lutheran Church or to the charity of your choice.
The family wishes to express their thanks and sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff of St. Joseph’s Hospice and of the Rutledge Home for their excellent care and compassion shown to Arlene.
