SERVICE:

11:30 a.m., Thursday, August 3 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel

Arthur "Art" Lynn Howell, 87, has "gone fishing" to be with his beloved wife, Jan, of 64 years. He died peacefully on July 29, 2017, at Dove Healthcare-Rutledge Home while under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.

Art was born in Alliance, Ohio on November 14, 1929, to Robert and Anna (Mohr) Howell.

After graduating from Roosevelt High School in Detroit, Mich. in 1948, he attended Wayne State University in Detroit and earned an associate's degree in business. In 1950, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served as a Munitions Specialist who proudly served his country in the 2nd munitions division during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1953, and returned to Detroit where he worked for Colgate and General Mills in Grand Rapids, Mich. He then moved to Chippewa Falls and worked for ARDCO (Applied Research and Development Corp.) in Chippewa Falls, which was later purchased by Amoco. While in Chippewa Falls, Art had several businesses, he owned the Cadott Inn in Cadott, the Hotel Northern and Total Lawn Care in Chippewa Falls.

Art was an avid fisherman who enjoyed spending time with his family in the "great outdoors." He was also known for being a constant prankster and joker.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Jan.

Art will be sorely missed by his children, Alan (Oki) Howell of Enon, Ohio, Denise (Tom) Lemke of Jim Falls, Lisa (Mike) Ruf of Chippewa Falls, Dale (Gloria) Howell of Eau Claire, and Glen Howell of Chippewa Falls; grandchildren, Christopher (Tara) Lemke, Peter (Ashley) Lemke, Travis (Rachel) Ruf, Melissa Ruf, Nicole and Ashley Howell; great-grandchildren, Hunter and Gavin Ruf, and Caroline Lemke; brother, Jack (Joan) Howell of Long Island, New York; nieces, Karen of Seattle, Wash. and Julie of New York; great-niece and nephew, Angel and Hyojun Baek; and other relatives and friends.

Pops left us with laughter in our hearts and sadness in our souls, and the knowledge he is reeling in the "big one".

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, August 3 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, 44 E. Columbia St., Chippewa Falls with Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Union Countryside Cemetery in the town of Goetz. Military Honors will be provided by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
