Bernice Wolfe, 98, of Chippewa Falls died on March 7, 2016 at the Chippewa Manor Nursing Home.
She was born to Ole and Anna (Finsnes) Quale on April 7, 1917. She attended Valley View School in the Town of Lafayette and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1934.
Bernice was married to Lewis Wolfe on February 25, 1936 in Rockford, Illinois. They shared 65 wonderful years together with their family until Lewis passed away in 1998. She always enjoyed so much being a "real farmer" with her husband, and hunting, fishing and lots of dancing with him. She also enjoyed 15 years as an aide at the Northern Center for the Developmentally Disabled retiring at age 62. During World War II, she worked at Phillips Corporation in Hallie making bullets.
She was a member of St. Simeon's Episcopal Church in the Town of Lafayette since the time of her marriage in 1936. She loved her church so much that she wrote a history book about it from the time it was built in 1912. She named the book "The Little Church with a Big Heart". She also wrote a history book about her whole family from the time they homesteaded their Hendry farm in 1862. The farm has stayed in the family over the years and is now owned by Bernice's son Donald. She loved the many happy memories and exciting times with her children, grandchildren and friends through the years and showed them all her love.
Survivors include two sons, Robert (Carol) of Stockton, NJ, Donald (Bonnie) of Lafayette, Chippewa Falls; a son-in-law, Karl Karlson of St. Paul, MN; seven grandchildren, Michael of Lafayette, Sheryl (Bob) Sippel of Valrico, FL, Kris (Sara) Karlson of River Falls, Erik Karlson of St. Cloud, MN, Alec (Metta) Karlson of Copenhagen, Denmark, Laura (Allan) Bjork of Las Vegas, NV, Richard (Rebecca) Wolfe of Sacramento, CA; 13 great grandchildren; and many step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, step great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Dorene Karlson; her parents; three sisters, Pearl, Doris, Irene; her brother Orvin; and one grandson Larry Wolfe.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 12 at Christ Episcopal Church in Chippewa Falls with Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating assisted by Rev. Aaron Zook. Interment will follow service at Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Friday and from 9-10 am on Saturday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel in Chippewa Falls.
