Betty M. Zielke, 91, of Chippewa Falls, died Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Rutledge Home Assisted Living in Chippewa Falls.
She was born August 31, 1922 to Mary (Olson) and Wilbur Rupert in River Falls. Betty grew up in River Falls were she attended high school, graduating in 1940.
On June 19, 1941 Betty married Erwin W. Zielke at Trinity United Methodist Church in La Crosse. In August 1941 they moved to Miles Iowa. Erwin enlisted in the US Air Force and was immediately sent to an Air Force Base in Florida. Betty moved in with her parents for the duration of WW II.
She worked as a waitress at the hotel in River Falls and then as a clerk at Manson's Department Store until Erwin returned from the Air Force. They then moved to Marshfield and from 1955- 1961 they lived in Mosinee, moving to Chippewa Falls in 1961 where she has since resided. She was employed at J.C. Penney's in Chippewa Falls for 23 years, until her retirement in 1985.
Betty was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Jim Duffenbach of Chippewa Falls; two grandsons, Scott and Paul Zielke both of Naples, Florida; nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Erwin on July 3, 2007; son, Donald on July 16, 1977; daughter, Kathleen on July 30, 1996; two sisters, Dorothy Myer, Mae Healy; two brothers, Vernon and Glen Rupert.
A memorial prayer service will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, July 22 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with Rev. Paul Oppedahl of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
