Calvin Quale

d. May 1, 2010

He was born July 7, 1929 in Buffalo County to Myra (Klopp) and Andrew Quale.

Cal married Jean Nystrom on September 23, 1950. He served his country for two years in the U.S. Army, and retired from the telephone company after more than 36 years of dedicated employment.

In the retirement phase of his life, he worked at Prairie View Cemetery in the Village of Lake Hallie for eight years, traveled throughout the U.S. and Europe, and devoted much of his time to volunteer activities. He was a well-known figure working at Luther Park in Chetek; he volunteered his time at Central Lutheran Church, the Opimist Club cheese curd stand at the Northern Wisconsin State Fair and, the project he was most proud of, turning Irvine Park into a beautiful Christmas Village in the winters.

He was a life-long member of Central Lutheran Church, as well as an active member of the telephone Pioneers, Chippewa Falls Optimist Club, the American Legion Post 77 and, lest we forget, the Old Goats Club.

He was preceded in death by parents, Myra and Andrew Quale; brother, Harvey Quale; and grandson Ben Polhamus.

He is survived by daughter, Kathy Polhamus of St. Paul, MN; granddaughter, Marnie (Ryan) Fearon of Blaine, MN; great-grandson, Anthony Fearon; sister, Dorothy Leyton of Lake San Marcos, CA; sister-in-law, Beverly Quale of Eau Claire; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

If there was ever a job that needed to be done or a problem to be solved, he could always be counted on to make sure it happened. There was nothing he couldn't fix--one way or another. Like the rest of the Quale family, he could be as stubborn as they come, but he also gave generously of his time, money and love. He cherished his family and friends, loved to laugh at a good joke or story, and had a heart of gold. While we are so sad to see him go, it's gratifying to know that he was spared a great deal of physical pain and went on to the next life in peace.

Your work is done here, dad, rest well.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, May 7 at Central Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Rick Hoyme officiating. Interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Village of Lake Hallie, at a later date.
