Chester C. Chet Jankowski, 90, of Chippewa Falls, died peacefully Thursday, July 4, 2013 at Rutledge Home Assisted Living & Memory Care in Chippewa Falls while under the care of Mayo Clinic Hospice.
He was born July 18, 1922 in Milwaukee to Angeline Mary (Knoppa) and Frank Joseph Jankowski.
Chet served in the U.S. Army from October 21, 1942 until being medically and honorably discharged on December 21, 1944, an honored recipient of the Purple Heart.
Chet married Julia L. Betty Roberts on February 12, 1942 in Milwaukees St. Josaphats Basilica. They moved to Chippewa Falls on May 30, 1948, where Chet worked in the maintenance department at the Northern Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Denise (Richard) Woodcock of Lake Holcombe; grandchildren, Robyn Woodcock of Eau Claire, Hannah (Nicholas) Kressin of Elk Mound, Casey (Nicole) Woodcock of Stanley; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Carson and Carlee Woodcock, Archer Kressin and Baby Kressin, due in December; also great-grand doggy, Tabby. The great-grandchildren lovingly referred to him as Grandpa Chet.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Betty on September 30, 2011; two sons, Thomas and Paul Jankowski; a daughter, Sally Jankowski; his in-laws, Percy and Frances Roberts; and his dog, Cocoa.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a graveside service with blessing of Chets cremated remains at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at Calvary Cemetery in Chippewa Falls. Military honors will be provided by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
