Clayton Austin

Clayton R. Austin, 89, of Eau Claire, died Saturday, January 16, 2010 at The Clairemont Nursing Home in Eau Claire.

He was born May 13, 1920 in Eau Claire to May (Brown) and Willard Austin. He was raised in Chippewa Falls and following school, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps.

On July 13, 1943, Clayton married Thelma V. Smith in Chippewa Falls, where they resided until moving to Baraboo, where he was employed at the Munitions Manufacturing Plant, then moved to Eau Claire in 1953. He and his wife moved to a farm in Elk Mound in 1972 and Clayton worked at Uniroyal from 1946 until his retirement in 1981. They moved to Tacoma, Washington in 1984 and returned to Eau Claire in 1989.
