Corinne J. Hakes

Corinne was born on July 2nd, 1928, to John and Rosalia Proulx and returned to her heavenly home on January 5th, 2025.

After having 3 children, she became employed at the Northern Colony/Center and she worked there for many years. At the age of 60, she retired from there in 1988. Her and her second husband, Clarence Hakes took many trips including Alaska, Australia and European Countries. She enjoyed watching her favorite sports teams on tv: Chicago Cubs, Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers. Corrine was a lover of the outdoors. She loved going fishing but especially eating them, growing vegetables and raising flowers, watching and feeding birds and the local rabbits and squirrels sure loved the treats she left out for them. In spite of any kind of weather, her daily 3 to 5 mile neighborhood walks were a must, just like the mailmen. As a mother and grandmother, she loved to cook. She prepared many holiday meals at her house as long as she could. Then it was turned over to her children's and grandchildren's generation for some years. As a member of Holy Ghost Church, her involvement in that religious community was quite extensive. She did Saturday 5pm mass readings, helped clean the church, helped prepare funeral luncheons and distributed communion to some persons who were not able to attend mass. She passed away in her home and will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John & Rosalia Proulx; sisters, Lorraine & Lucille; brothers, Norman & Leonard; her first Husband, Delmar Grill; her second Husband, Clarence Hakes; and her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Griļl.

Corinne is survived by her sons, Jerry Grill (Kathryn Nale) and James Grill (Connie Lange); daughter, Sandra (Geno) Miller; grandson, Brett (Becky) Grill; granddaughters, Jessica Mertig (Jeff Mertig), Tara Miller (Brian Nurmala), Jenna (Dave) Nelson; great-grandsons, Jayton Mertig, and Tyler Grill; great-granddaughters, Jillian Mertig, Paige Grill, Ellie and Meredith Nurmala; and her sister, Bernice Schueller.

The Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 412 S. Main St, Chippewa Falls, with a visitation one hour prior to Mass at church. Fr. David Nowicki will be officiating. The interment will be in Hope Catholic Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Holy Ghost Parish or Irvine Park.
