David J. Gunderson, 80, of the town of Wheaton, died Thursday, April 18, 2024, at Our House Senior Living in Chippewa Falls while under the care of St. Croix Hospice.

Dave was born October 30, 1943, in Chippewa Falls to Hilman and Edna (Sykora) Gunderson. He graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1961 and served in the U.S. Air Force from June 17, 1961 to June 9, 1965.

For many years he lived in Mosinee, WI working at Mesaba Airlines as an aviation mechanic and pilot. He moved back to Chippewa Falls in January 2008 and resided in the town of Wheaton on a 10-acre farm. Over the years he worked for various airlines, Trans Texas Airways, NC Airways, and Northwest Airlines. Dave was a hard worker and often traveled great distances for work.

When he wasn’t working on airplanes, Dave could often be found tinkering outside and in the garage. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at the park with his grandkids.

Dave is survived by his children, Lee Gunderson (Kristin Yaeger) of Chippewa Falls, Matthew (Ashley) Gunderson of Greenville, WI, and Caitlyn Lantz of Madison, WI; grandchildren, Austin and Aria Gunderson, brother, Eugene Gunderson (Lucy) of Chippewa Falls; sister-in-law, Patricia Gunderson of Chippewa Falls, and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert Gunderson.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 7, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery in Cooks Valley, Chippewa County.
