David Pressler, age 76, of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 2013 at Milestone Assisted Living in Eau Claire after a courageous battle with cancer.
David was born on March 24, 1937 in Canby, MN to Angeline & Walter J. Pressler and graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1955. He was united in marriage to Shirley Jane Budde on June 6, 1959 in Hillsboro, WI.
David served as 1st Cook in the 32nd Red Arrow Division of the National Guard from 1954 through 1962. He served during the "Berlin Conflict" and was on guard following the Colfax/Chippewa Tornado of 1958. David began his printing career working for the Chippewa Herald, followed by many years with the Shed Brown Company. He then worked in custodial maintenance for over 25 years in the Eau Claire Area School District retiring from Meadowview Elementary in 1998.
David was an active member of Chapel Heights United Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Trustees. He was a drummer and a singer who loved all kinds of music. David enjoyed woodworking, fishing, watching the Packers, playing board/card games like Pit, telling jokes, but most of all spending time with his family and friends. He was always helping someone out and was known as "Mr. Fix-it" to many. David had a very kind heart and a strong faith in the Lord.
He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 54 years; two daughters, Kaeleen Pressler-Mohr of Eau Claire, Kathleen (Chris) Rose of DePere; one son, Brian (Kristin) Pressler of Eau Claire; a sister, Helen Rineck of Chippewa Falls; sister-in-law, Eunice Pressler of Josephine, AL; step sister-in-law, Joanie Schneider of Colfax; a step brother, Sheldon (Dorothy) Schneider of Chippewa Falls; seven grandchildren, Benton (Kelly) Rose, Kaitlin, Anna, and Brady Rose, Britta and Bjorn Pressler, and Angeline Mohr; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepmother, Doris Pressler-Schneider; a stepfather, Arnold Schneider; a sister, Joyce Benson; a brother, Walter C. Pressler; a stepbrother, Donald Schneider; two siblings, Madonna and Roger Pressler and one granddaughter, Kjerstie Pressler died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 5 pm on Tuesday, December 3rd at Chapel Heights United Methodist Church in Eau Claire with the Rev. Cheri Miskimen officiating. Interment will be held at 11am on Wednesday, December 4th at Rest Haven Cemetery in the Township of Washington with military honors presented by the Eau Claire American Legion Post 53.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Monday, December 2nd at Chapel Heights United Methodist Church in Eau Claire and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Memorials in David's honor may be designated to the Ackert/Elliott Music Scholarship at the Chippewa Falls High School, the David and Shirley Pressler Piano Fund for Chapel Heights Methodist Church, or to the Mayo Clinic Health System Cancer Center in Eau Claire.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Milestone Assisted Living and the medical/hospice staff at Mayo Clinic Health System- Eau Claire and Rochester, MN.
AFTERSERVICE
A funeral service for David R. Pressler, 76, of Eau Claire, was held Tuesday, December 3 at Chapel Heights United Methodist Church in Eau Claire. The Rev. Cheri Miskimen officiated, scripture was read by granddaughter, Britta Pressler and personal reflections were given by grandson, Benton Rose and son, Brian Pressler. Music was provided organist, Brian Pressler; flutist, Kris Pressler; violinist, Ryan Poquette; brass quartet, Jerry Young, Rodney Hudson, Bill Simon and Sean Hanson; and the area church choir directed by Ron Mastin.
Interment was in Rest Haven Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Eau Claire American Legion Post 53. Casket bearers were grandchildren, Benton, Kaitlin and Brady Rose, Britta and Bjorn Pressler, Angeline Mohr; nephew, Craig Budde; and family friends, Donald Sobotta and Ronald Miller. Honorary casket bearers were Anna Rose and Cade Cooper
