Delores "Dodie" M. Driscoll, 81, of Chippewa Falls, peacefully passed away under the care of Mayo Hospice at home with family by her side on the morning of Friday, January 31, 2025.
A lovely, loving, bright star left Chippewa Falls Friday morning. Known fondly by her friends as “Dodie,” she was deeply loved and cared for by many. She cared deeply about developing long-lasting friendships throughout her life - one she maintained since grade school in Chippewa Falls over 76 years ago.
Described by friends as graceful, elegant, and classy, Dodie had a keen eye for style, home decoration, and floral design. With her warm and caring nature she would light up a room quickly. Equally known for her delightful sense of humor and sassiness, she was known for speaking her mind.
Born on July 2, 1943, in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, to Howard and Hazel (Larson) Martineau, Dodie graduated from McDonell Central Catholic High School in 1961. Following high school, she attended Minnesota Business College, where she refined her exceptional business administration skills, eventually becoming Vice President of First Minnesota Savings Bank. In her final business role, Dodie served as the wind beneath the wings of her life partner, Larry Freeborg, helping him excel with his consulting and coaching businesses.
Early in their time together Dodie and Larry enjoyed traveling and cruising, exploring destinations such as the Caribbean, Baltic and Mediterranean Seas. Other countries visited included Costa Rica, Barbados and New Zealand. After their foreign travels, Dodie and Larry tried their hand at motorhoming in the States and Canada. They eventually chose to spend their time in their lovely home on Lake Wissota in Chippewa Falls, WI and Casa Grande, AZ, where they snow-birded to find respite from the winters of the Midwest and Dodie could work on perfecting her golf game, dancing with Larry, and cherishing the deep friendships they made with many wonderful Canadian friends.
Dodie is survived by her life partner, Lawrence “Larry” Freeborg; her son, Chris (Amy) Brekken, and his children, Jake, Nick (Nicole); and her daughter, Chantelle (Pat) Martineau; and her son, Hunter (Ruthie); her brother, Roger Martineau, and his family: Michele, Lisa, David, Nannette, Beth, and Susanne; as well as Larry’s children: Sue Ann Freeborg, Shelly Piper (Jeff O’Donnell), Michael Freeborg (Chris Trani) and their son, Jensen, Stacy Ann Freeborg-Junge (Greg Junge), and their son, Grady; along with many other loving family members and friends.
Dodie was preceded in death by her parents, Hazel and Howard; her sister-in-law, Liz Martineau.
In accordance with Dodie’s wishes no service will be held.
Dodie’s internment will be at the Chapel of Hope Mausoleum in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin at a date yet to be determined.
