Donald E. Douglas, 94, formerly of Northern Apartments, Chippewa Falls, died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Country Terrace Assisted Living in Bloomer under the care of Mayo Clinic Health System Home Health Hospice.
He was born August 26, 1918 in Chippewa Falls to Josephine (Schwaub) and Ernest Douglas. He was raised in Jim Falls near Popple Lake. He served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard USS Philadelphia.
Don married Lauretta Brockman in Wonewoc, WI. They resided in Chippewa Falls were he worked as a mechanic. He moved to Jim Falls at Finley Lake Rd. in 1976 and then moved back to Chippewa Falls in 1990. He has been a resident of Care Partners/Country Terrace in Bloomer for the past eight years.
Don was well known as a ginseng collector and processor.
Survivors include three sons, John (Lydia) Douglas of Brea, CA, Noel (Patricia) Douglas of Chippewa Falls, Jerry Douglas of Jim Falls; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lauretta on October 13, 1974; a son, James Douglas; two sisters, Marjorie Schwetz, Joyce Douglas and a brother, Lester Douglas.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m., Monday, April 1 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel.
