Dorothy Dusick

Dorothy Francis (Kowalewski) Dusick, 89 years old, most recently of Altoona, WI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 6, 2018, with her loving family by her side at Oakwood Villa Rehab and Nursing Home. She was just shy of her 90th birthday.

Dorothy was born the oldest of five children on January 10, 1928, to Selma and Mike Kowalewski in Owen/Withee, WI. She grew up on the home farm where she worked next to her father farming and in her spare time learned to knit, sew, and crochet.

As a young woman, Dorothy and her sister, Betty came to Eau Claire to work. It is in Eau Claire where she met and married Gerald J. Dusick Sr. They were married in May of 1956, and to this union were born two songs, Gerald J. Dusick Jr. of Chippewa Falls and Patrick Dusick of Las Vegas, NV. Together Dorothy and Jerry built a construction business and in her spare time she made quilts, many of which were given as gifts to loved ones.

Dorothy and Jerry in their retirement years spent their winters at Apache Junction, AZ with his brothers and one sister, where they also made many friends they enjoyed and treasured. Dorothy always enjoyed the going and coming back as she loved the many places they visited and the many sites they saw along the way.

Dorothy is survived by and deeply missed by her two sons, Gerald Jr. and wife Alice (Freid) and her grandchildren, Amanda Freid, and Chelsea and Steven Dusick and Patrick and his significant other Virginia Bacon. She is further survived by her sisters, Betty Dieringer of Blanco, TX, Shirley (John) Olson of Kenosha, WI, and Mary (Bob) Meyer of Altoona, WI; along with many nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gerald Dusick, Sr., brother, Mike Kowalewski; her brother-in-law, Joe Dieringer; and two nieces, Marilyn and Karen.

The Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 13, 2018, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 1812 Lynn Ave, Altoona with a visitation one hour prior to the mass at church. Fr. Derek Sakowski will be officiating. Entombment will be in The Chapel of the Resurrection at Calvary Cemetery, Eau Claire, WI.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the family.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Oakwood Villa, St Joseph’s Hospice and the many care givers who took such good care of our Dorothy. Also a special thank you to her roommate, Caryl Butler for the care and attention she provided to Dorothy.
