Dorothy M. Worthington, 78, of Chippewa Falls, died Friday, September 19, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving family while under the care of Mayo Clinic Hospice.

She was born May 12, 1936 in Chippewa Falls, the daughter of Margaret (Christensen) and Martin Christenson. She lived in Chippewa Falls most of her life.

On September 15, 1956, she married Wilbur Steinmetz, and together they had a son and two daughters. They later divorced.

Dorothy started working at St. Joseph's Hospital at the age of 16, and held several other jobs, including Payne's Plumbing, Chippewa Vet Clinic and the Northern Center.

On October 26, 1979, she married Everett Worthington. They moved to Rockford, IL, where Dorothy worked for a cleaning service and home health agency. In April 1986, Everett retired and they moved back to Chippewa Falls to be near family. Dorothy returned to St. Joseph's Hospital and to Heyde Health, where she was a CNA until her retirement.

Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Everett; daughters, Janie (Mitch) Hamman, all of Chippewa Falls, Mary "Jo" (Mike) Wruck of Jim Falls; a brother, Eugene (Gert) Christenson of Fall Creek; two step children, Candy (Steve) Swope of Stanley, Jon Worthington of Rockford, IL; five grandchildren, Mariah, Sarah, Mitch Jr., Jamie, Maleah; eight great-grandchildren, Jordan, Brooke, Noah, Tony, Gavin, Nataya, Tristan, Londyn and one new great-granddaughter due in February; four step grandchildren; 15 step great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and her best friend, Joanne Ritter.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Michael; two sisters, Donna Moore and Lorraine Dresel; a step son, Jerry Worthington; and mother-in-law, Zola Worthington.

Dorothy and Everett loved to dance. They also enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing. She especially loved to go camping with her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at Rosenthal's Resort. She will be remembered for her cooking, baking, witty personality and the beautiful quilts she made for her family to cherish. She will be sadly missed.

Dorothy's family would like to express their sincere gratitude and thanks to Mayo Clinic Hospice for the wonderful care given to Dorothy which allowed her to spend her last days at home with her family.

A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Tuesday, September 23 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Robert Hoekstra, chaplain at the Chippewa Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation, officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service Tuesday at the funeral chapel.

AFTERSERVICE

A funeral service for Dorothy M. Worthington, 78, of Chippewa Falls was held at 12 noon, Tuesday, September 23 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Robert Hoekstra, chaplain of Chippewa Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation officiated and music was provided by Judy Brist. Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls. Casket bearers were Mitch Hamman Sr., Mitch Hamman Jr., Mike Wruck, Jamie Calkins, Larry Christenson and Jerry Moore.
