Douglas S Benner, 61, of Altoona, died peacefully at home under the care of Heartland Hospice on Wednesday, October 27, 2021.
Doug was born to Lloyd and Lorraine (Schiefelbein) Benner in Eau Claire on August 7, 1960. He graduated from Chippewa Falls Senior High School in 1978. Doug served his country in the US Army until his retirement with honorable discharge after 20 years with the rank of Sergeant First Class.
While stationed in Germany, he met and married his wife Manuella (Gutermuth) Benner. Doug spent over 8 years in Germany, then came back stateside to Kentucky and later Florida. After his retirement from the Army, he earned his ASE World Class Technician Certification and worked as an automotive technician until his passing, most recently having his own shop in Chippewa Falls known as “Doug’s Auto Repair”.
Doug was an avid cook, enjoying cook-offs with family members and wowing people with his dishes. He loved Packer Game get-togethers, annual fishing trips with family and friends, and was very talented mechanically. He could fix anything. He was a kind and gentle man that will be missed by all who knew him.
Doug is survived by his parents, Lloyd and Lorraine of Chippewa Falls; brother, Brad (Julie) Benner of Tomahawk, sister, Linda (Steve) Atchley of Chippewa Falls, brother, Greg (Melissa) Benner of Chippewa Falls; nieces and nephews, Crystal Benner, Adam Benner, Laura Atchley, Sarah Atchley, Alicia (James) Stearns and Isaac Benner; special friend, June Knutson; and many other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Manuella; paternal grandparents, Clebourn and Iola Benner; maternal grandparents, Ewald and Goldine Schiefelbein; and uncles, Arlyn Benner, Richard Benner, Dale Benner and Marvin Bischoff.
The memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Crossroads Church, 209 W. South Ave. Chippewa Falls, WI 54729 with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. The interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls with Military Honors conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
