Dr. Bruce L. Miller, 77, of Chippewa Falls, died peacefully under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at HSHS Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
On February 24, 1939, Bruce was born to Gerald and Doris (Leach) Miller in Bennington, Vt. He was united in marriage to Jeannette Wolff on May 23, 1965. Bruce served in the Army Reserves with the 365th General Hospital Unit in Buffalo, N.Y.
Bruce graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1959 from the University of New Hampshire. He then attended Harvard Medical School graduating in 1964, followed by his residency. Bruce was a Board Certified Surgeon and Fellow of American College of Surgeons (FACS).
Being active with the Chippewa Falls community, Bruce was a deacon and session member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a volunteer for the Mentor program with the Chippewa Falls school district. Bruce was very active with the Boy Scouts of America, receiving various recognitions and awards. He was also involved with many local and state medical societies.
In Bruce's free time he enjoyed playing bridge, he was a fine woodworker, designing numerous furniture pieces. He sang in choirs, enjoyed camping, hiking with his kids, cooking and entertaining. An invitation for his homemade pizza was a coveted item.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jeannette; daughter, Karla (Steve Smith) Miller of Oxford, England; sons, Kendall (Cheryl) Miller of Timonium, Md., Geoffrey Miller of Chicago, Ill., and Allen (Olga) Miller of Spring Grove, Pa.; grandchildren, Micah, Galen, Fiona, Zoe, and Emilia; sister, Pricilla McLaughlin of Barre, Vt.; brothers, Kenneth Miller of Clinton, N.Y., Anthony (Anne Marie) of Atlanta, Ga., and Paul (Samantha) Miller of Hannibal, Mo.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2016, at First Presbyterian Church, 130 W. Central St., Chippewa Falls, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at church. Rev. Dr. Karel Hanhart will be officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Enosburgh Center Cemetery, Franklin County, Vt.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Chippewa Falls Mentor Program or First Presbyterian Church of Chippewa Falls.
