Duane R. "Wimp" Nyhus, 88, of Chippewa Falls, town of Eagle Point, died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at his home.
He was born on December 31, 1925 to Savrina (Flackey) and Arthur Nyhus.
On May 20, 1950, he married Mildred Soden at Trinity United Methodist Church in Chippewa Falls. Wimp worked for nearly 40 years at Falls Dairy in Jim Falls, until his retirement.
He served honorably in the U.S. Navy from February, 1943 to July, 1946.
Wimp was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Eagleton, where he was a past council member and past president of the congregation. His favorite hobbies include fishing, deer hunting, golfing, and he always shared fresh vegetables from his garden. He also enjoyed woodworking and made many cabinets, rocking chairs, and other items for family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Millie; a son Tom Nyhus of Webster; daughter, Cheryl (Mark) Edwards of Crystal, MN; son-in-law, Harold Hansen of Menomonie; sisters, Lorraine Denning, Wanda (Bob) LeCleir, Rogene (Jim) Cardinal, all of Chippewa Falls; brothers, Eldie (Violet) Nyhus of Jim Falls, Ron (Jan) Nyhus of Chippewa Falls; seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Paul Clark) Nyhus of Milwaukee, Jill (Chuck) Bowe, Julie (Dave) Bohl, all of Bloomer, John (Jennifer) Nyhus of Eau Claire, Joel (Emily) Hansen, Kurt Hansen, all of Menomonie, Eric Edwards of Crystal, MN; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Terri Hansen; sisters, Donna and Sharon Nyhus; brothers, Harlan and Merne Nyhus; a brother-in-law, Gerald Denning; and a great-grandson, Gavin Nyhus.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 11 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eagleton with the Rev. Philip Pitt officiating. Burial will follow in Eagleton Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Monday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
