Edwin Chester Zimbelman, 92, of Chippewa Falls, village of Lake Hallie, died Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Maple Ridge Memory Care in Plover, WI, while under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.
He was born February 23, 1920 in Fairfax, SD to Sophia (Ulmer) and William Zimbelman.
He served in the US Navy from December 28, 1943 until being honorably discharged on October 24, 1944.
Ed married Marjorie Alice Reid on February 29, 1944 in Menomonie. They resided in Chippewa Falls.
He worked for Indianhead Trucking as a driver, then as a driver for American Materials until he retired.
Ed could do just about anything from mechanics, welding, construction, gardening, to tree trimming. He ran a hobby farm, gas station and a sports shop. He loved helping others, tinkering in his garage, fixing anything that didn't work. He worked harder after his retirement than he did during his years as a truck driver. He was usually outside from the crack of dawn until supper time or later. His children and grandchildren were blessed with a "Mr. Fix It" for a father and grandfather.
Survivors include a daughter, Jill (Thomas) Schaefer of Plover; a son, Gary Zimbelman of Chippewa Falls; six grandchildren, Rick (Lisa) Zimbelman, Melissa (Tim) Turbett, Aaron (Tricia) Zimbelman, Nicholas (Bri) Haley, Justin (Jenny) Haley, Michael Bergman; eleven great-grandchildren, Paxton and Elin Haley, Ethan, Nicole, Natalie, Evan Nora and Mason Zimbelman, Trelan and Micha Turbett, Reese Haley and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marjorie on March 19, 2012; five sisters, Martha Carter, Esther Schmidt, Louise Dunkak, Helen Stoltenberg, Edna Vosika; five brothers, Walter, Bill, Otto, Carl and Paul Zimbelman.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, September 20 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel in Chippewa Falls with Rev. Terri Koca officiating. Interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
