Elias J. "Jim" Mahoney, 90, of Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette, died on Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2013 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Chippewa Falls.

He was born November 24, 1922 in Chippewa Falls to Lottie (Gerber) and Elias Mahoney. In 1939, he graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School. Jim proudly served in the US Army with the 135th Infantry, 34th Division, Company F from Feb. 22, 1943 until his honorable discharged on Nov. 9, 1945.

On June 21, 1953 Jim married Beverly Hoff at Christ Cathedral in Eau Claire.

He managed Madison Street Body Shop in Eau Claire, then drove truck for Dairy Maid of Eau Claire, before becoming the 4th generation to own and operate the family farm.

One of Jims greatest honors was taking the Freedom Flight from LaCrosse to Washington DC with his fellow veterans. What a privilege and an experience this must have been, as this was the first and only flight he ever took.

Jim loved the outdoors and nature, his farm, MM tractors, and his pets, especially his German Shepherd, Dolly, who passed away just three weeks ago. Jim was dearly loved by his family and they will forever cherish their memories with him.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 60 years, Beverly; two daughters, Colleen (Doug Buchli) Mahoney of Chippewa Falls, Peggy (Greg) Johnson of Eau Claire; a son Jimmy (Jan) Mahoney of Chippewa Falls; two half-brothers, Harold (Verna Janet) Parker, Carl (Harriet) Parker all of Eau Claire; one half-sister, Dona (Dale) Peterson of Chippewa Falls; five grandchildren, Valaree (Wayne) Buchli of Bloomer, Brian (Laina Stashek) Mahoney, Shane (Randi Joles) Mahoney all of Chippewa Falls, Tre and Mercedes Johnson of Eau Claire; five great-grandchildren, Kryst, Jesse, Colton, Adriana and Daisy; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Fred Parker; two brothers, Alexander Robert Mahoney, Richard Mahoney and a granddaughter, Jessica Kuechenmeister.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m., Friday, May 31 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council immediately following the service and interment will be in Northside Cemetery, Eau Claire.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Wisconsin Veterans Home in Chippewa Falls, in appreciation for the exceptional care given to Jim during his stay there.

AFTERSERVICE:

A memorial service for Elias J. Jim Mahoney, was held at 12 p.m., Friday, May 31 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiated and military honors were conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council. Interment followed at Northside Lutheran Cemetery, Eau Claire.
