Elizabeth "Bee" Snyder, age 88, of South Bend, Indiana died peacefully on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, following a brief illness.

Bee was born on February 11, 1926 in Chippewa Falls to George and Marie DeLong. She graduated from McDonell High School in Chippewa Falls in 1944 and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Indiana University, Bloomington in 1948 with a Degree in Journalism. It was at Indiana University that she met Paul H. Snyder. They were married on June 24, 1950. They settled in Mishawaka and were then transferred in 1954 to Orange County, California, where they lived until moving to South Bend in 1971.

They raised five children: Paul Jr., Susan, Patricia, Timothy, and Mary.She worked in Chippewa Falls at the Chippewa Herald and had a column called,"DeLong and DeShort of It." After her children weregrown, she worked at Swanson Highlands Elementary School in South Bend. Bee was active in her church; with her many friends in Swanson Highlands and at Holy Cross Village. Among many others things, she also loved playing bridge and her cat Tuxedo.

Bee was preceded in death by her husband Paul and her son Paul, Jr.

She leaves behind her brother, Jim; sister, Susan; four loving children, eight grandchildren; Erin, Nathan, Zachry, Matt, Steven, Jill, Carlos, and Bella; and a great-grandchild, Maddex.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 noon, Monday, August 11 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Chippewa Falls with Rev. Msgr. Mark Pierce officiating. Interment will be in Hope Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Visitation will befrom 10 a.m. until the time of the service Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in her name to the Little Flower Food Bank, 54191 Ironwood Rd., South Bend, IN 46635, (574) 272-7070.

AFTERSERVICE

A funeral service for Elizabeth "Bee" Snyder was held at 12 noon, Monday, August 11 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Chippewa Falls. Rev. Msgr. Mark Pierce was celebrant of the funeral Mass and server was John Francis; music was provided by Judy Brist; readings were given by daughter, Susan Caron and niece, Nancy Sweet; the eulogy was given by daughter, Patricia Diamand; gift bearers were sister, Susan DeLong and brother, Jim Delong; and Eucharistic Minister was Missy Rasmus. Interment was at Hope Cemetery, Chippewa Falls. Casket bearers were Bee's children and their spouses, Susan and James Caron, Patricia and Gene Diamand, Timothy and Robin Snyder and honorary bearers were John Rasmus and Peter Kalk.
