Ellen L. Houts, 83, of Chippewa Falls, died Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Chippewa Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation in Chippewa Falls.
She was born October 20, 1930 in Yankton, South Dakota to Rasmina (Sorenson) and Lars Kirkegaard. She was raised in Yankton and Sioux Falls, South Dakota and graduated from Sioux Falls High School in 1948
Ellen married Delbert Houts on June 20, 1948 at East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. They resided in Sioux Falls until moving to Chippewa Falls in 1950. She worked at the Chippewa Falls Historical Center.
She was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls, where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years.
Survivors include five daughters, Linda (Dennis Radkey) Houts of Beldenville, Wisconsin, Deborah Houts of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Diane (Mark) Hines of Trego, Wisconsin, Ellen (Doug) Bergstrom of Navarre, Florida, Barbara (Les) Dommer of Eau Claire; eight grandchildren, Sean and Patrick Daley, Rachael Radkey Holmes, Denise and Dan Radkey, Heather Hines, Erik and Erin Bergstrom; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Delbert on October 15, 1975; two sons, Robert "Bobby" Houts in 1961 and Paul Houts in 1998; three sisters, Luella Aasen, Mary Lee, Betty Gunderson; four brothers, Jens, Maurie, Tony and Harold Kirkegaard.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, September 12 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral chapel.
AFTERSERVICE
A funeral service for Ellen L. Houts, 83, of Chippewa Falls was held at 3 p.m., Friday, September 12 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiated. Interment was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls. Casket bearers were Sean and Pat Daley, Dan Radkey, Les Dommer, Ron Aasen and Randy Gunderson. Honorary bearers were Erik, Doug and Erin Bergstrom, Mark Hines, Denise and Dennis Radkey, Rachael Holmes and Elizabeth Roth.
