Esther Metzenbauer

Esther E. “Essie” Martin Metzenbauer, 105, of Chippewa Falls, died peacefully at the Wissota Health & Regional Vent Center in Chippewa Falls, on Sunday, February 18, 2018.

Esther was born on July 24, 1912, to Otto A. Sr. and Martha (Skog) Reifenauer of Eau Claire. She married Lawrence V. “Larry” Martin on April 23, 1932, he passed away on October 7, 1960. She married Floyd A. “Bud” Metzenbauer on September 5, 1964 and he passed away on September 7, 1996.

Esther was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. She enjoyed all types of crafts, knitting, crocheting, hunting, fishing, camping and loved to travel. She was very proud of her sewing, canning and flower beds. She was employed by the Hotel Eau Claire, Presto, and the Chippewa Woolen Mill, also as a Police Woman in Joliet, IL for the government. She was a great fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin University football teams.

Esther is survived by her brother, Irwin “Irvy” Reifenauer, Mechanicsville, MD; nieces, very special Ilene Wostoupal (Dr. Mel), Northbrook, IL, very special Gail Aubart, Chippewa Falls, Susan (Rick) Moore, White Plains, MD, Mary (Bill) Worchock, Rochester, NY, Dorothy (Jim) Clark, Stone Mountain, GA, Barbara (Larry) Whittle, Longwood, FL, Mary (Jack) Mattner, Chilton, WI, Lisa (Dan) Albrecht, Oshkosh, WI, Connie Sweeney, Chippewa Falls, Kathy (Johnny Dawson) Cole, Sun City, AZ, and Elizabeth (Scott) Roth, Barron, WI; nephews, Ralph Reifenauer, La Plata, MD, very special Gary (Deatra) Lazarz, Jim Falls, Rodney (Peg) Lazarz, Jim Falls, Brian (Margie) Lazarz, Jim Falls, Michael (Carrie) Lazarz, Tacoma, WA, Steve (Kathy) Metzenbauer, Irma, WI, Glen (Barb) Neubauer, Lake Hallie, WI, Duane Neubauer, Hot Springs, AR, Frank Metzenbauer, Appleton, WI, and Paul Metzenbauer, Chippewa Falls; many other nieces and nephews; special friends, Barb Howard and Bonnie Brovold; along with other thoughtful and caring friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by both her husbands; parents; brothers, Edmund, Otto Jr., Meltcher, Charles and Robert; and sisters, Arvilla Mielke and Mable Neubauer-Stanford.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018, at Zion United Methodist Church, with Rev. Don Drollinger officiating. Interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery, Village of Lake Hallie, Chippewa County Wisconsin.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Zion United Methodist Church, 1102 Superior Street, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729.
