Eugene C. "Gene" Novotney Sr., 77, of 18569 56th Ave., Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, due to complications following a stroke.

He was born February 11, 1933 in Cadott to Mary (Fuchs) and Rudolph Novotney. He grew up in Cadott and attended school there. He entered the U.S. Army on February 28, 1950 and served under General McArthur for the Inchon Invasion of South Korea and served at the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea during his first tour. He then served his second tour in Korea until being honorably discharged as a Corporal on June 12, 1953.

On September 26, 1953, Gene married Elaine Stoehr at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls.

He worked as a patrol officer for the Chippewa Falls Police Department from 1954 to 1956 and later worked for Soo Line Railroad in the Investigation and Protection Section in Chicago until 1959. Gene was an owner/operator for various trucking firms, retiring in 1985 due to an injury.
