Frank C. Adkins, 92, of Chippewa Falls died Sunday, September 23, 2012 surrounded by his family.

He was born June 19, 1920 and grew up in the Minneapolis area. As a young man, he helped his family build a home on the Mississippi River in Anoka, Minnesota. Thus began his lifelong love of being near the water.

He graduated from Anoka High School in 1938 and headed to California to build supplies in preparation for World War II. He spent four years in the U.S. Army at bases in the United States and in Germany before returning to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota. He then began a long career in sales which took him and his family throughout the midwest. In 1971, he moved to Chippewa Falls where he continued his career until his retirement in 1986.

On June 14, 2012 Frank and his loving wife, Joan, celebrated 59 years of marriage. He was a devoted husband and father to his children.

He is survived by his wife Joan, daughters Laurie (Tom) Pfiffner of Lodi, WI, Jane (John) Modjeski of Rice Lake, WI and Jill (Dan) Hietpas of Chippewa Falls. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Simon (Elizabeth) Pfiffner, Zachary Pfiffner, Megan Nelli, and Kirk and Evie Hietpas.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Art and Lewie; his sister, Betty; his son, Guy in 2010; and his granddaughter, Ingrid Hietpas in 1999.

A Memorial Service celebrating Frank's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Paul Oppedahl officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Thursday at the church.

AFTERSERVICE:

A memorial service for Frank C. Adkins, 92, of Chippewa Falls, was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Paul Oppedahl officiated and music was provided by Barbara Sandford. Frank's daughters, Jill Hieptas, Jane Modjeski and Laurie Pfiffner shared personal reflections.

Burial will be at a later date in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
