Gayle V. Schroeder, 72, of Eau Claire, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 29, 1944 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to Elgart H. Schroeder and Luella Merriam Markham Schroeder. He graduated from Memorial High School and 8 days later joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17. He served for 5 years. His service was extended because of the war. He was stationed in Texas when he met the love of his life Jeanne. They were married on June 6, 1964 in Big Springs, Texas.

After the Air Force he worked for a short time at Wood Motor Co. in Eau Claire where he learned to do body work and painting of cars, which he enjoyed doing for years. He also worked at Uniroyal for 25 years. After Uniroyal closed he and Jeanne started buying homes to remodel and rent, starting Reliable Property Management.

He and Jeanne served in the Chicago and St. Paul Temple for 7 years. They also served in the Chippewa Falls Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Among many church callings, he was Branch President in Chippewa Falls, executive secretary, taught seminary and served on the High Council.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Allyn, Neil and Richard; a brother-in-law, Dale Sherman; and father-in-law, Curtis P. Sherman.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jeanne; children, Vince (Lina) of Osseo, Ryan (Leonisa) of Chippewa Falls, Lynn Schroeder of Farmington, MN and Jana Schroeder of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Ciera, Christian, Gabriel, Kieran, Devon, Madison, Makenzie and Drew Schroeder, Steven and T.J. Fanene; sister, Judy (Keith) Smith of Pocatello, Idaho; brothers, Lyle (Charlotte) of Washington, Arvid (Sheryl) of Chelais, Washington and Robert Schroeder of Arizona; mother-in-law, Bonnie Sherman of Abilene, Texas; and a brother-in-law, Brad (Julie) Sherman of Abilene, Texas.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 30, 2016, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3335 Stein Blvd, Eau Claire, WI 54701, with a visitation one hour prior to the service at church. President Douglas Hoffer will be officiating. Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Eau Claire with Military Honors conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
