George F. Blunt, 84, of Chippewa Falls, died Thursday, September 8, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chippewa Falls.
He was born May 7, 1927 in Gilford, Montana to Opal (Slater) and Willis Blunt. He and his family moved to Cornell when George was a young boy. His father, Willis passed away and his mother, Opal later married Foster Ankney.
George served in the U.S. Army from 1945-1946 and again from 1950-1952. He continued to serve in the Army Reserves for many years and was honorably discharged as Sergeant First Class.
George married Donna J. Langel on June 16, 1951 at St. Charles Parish in Chippewa Falls. They resided in Chippewa Falls where he worked at Thaler Oil for over 20 years, until his retirement.
His hobbies included riding his motorcycle, fishing, hunting, visiting with people and tinkering in his garage. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Donna Blunt of Chippewa Falls; daughters, Wanda (Donald) Boehm, Jane Burgess, all of Bloomer; sons, Chris (Susan) Blunt of Chippewa Falls, Charles (Jenny) Blunt of Wausau, Barry Blunt of Holcombe; brothers, Marshall Blunt, Robert Blunt, Gale (Carol) Blunt, Darrell Ankney; sisters, Grace Weller, Lois Patrie, Karen Greene; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis Blunt and Opal Ankney; his stepfather, Foster Ankney; brothers, Edward, Gerald and Ernest Blunt; a granddaughter, Renae Stone; and a son-in-law, Cameron Burgess.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Monday, September 12 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with Rev. Fr. Robert Hoekstra officiating. Military honors provided by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will take place following the service at the funeral chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date in Hope Mausoleum, Chippewa Falls.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m. at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in George's honor may be designated to the Irvine Park Zoo, Chippewa Falls.
