George F. Brist, 92, formerly of Chippewa Falls, died Monday, October 28, 2013 in Madison.
He was born December 11, 1920 in Chippewa Falls to Emma (Flug) and Floyd Brist. He graduated in 1938 from Chippewa Falls High School. While in high school, George worked at Nelson Drug Store in Chippewa Falls and obtained training which assisted him in becoming a pharmacists mate in the United States Navy during World War II. He served honorably from 1942 through 1948. After World War II, George attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
After attending college, George returned to Chippewa Falls. On December 29, 1951, he married Virginia Ritter. They resided in Chippewa Falls at 520 Irvine Street, a home which George built himself with the help of his father, and raised their family there. George was employed as a meter tester for Northern States Power Company. He served on the Chippewa Falls City Council as an Alderman for the 7th Ward from 1971-1975. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 77 of Chippewa Falls and Faith Lutheran Church.
George was an avid hunter and fisherman. Upon retirement, he fulfilled a lifelong ambition to take flying lessons. He was an active supporter and volunteer photographer for the Wissota Skydiving Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Brist of Madison, two sons, Steven (Monica) Brist of Madison and James Brist of Woodbury, MN; five adult grandchildren, Steven Benjamin, Catherine, Rebecca, Mitchell and Tony Brist; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, on April 20, 1986, three sisters, Dorothy Mitch, Marjorie Kvisler, Lorraine Keezer and a brother, Kenneth Brist.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 25 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, with the Rev. William Plautz of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Interment with military honors presented by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday at the funeral chapel.

AFTERSERVICE
A funeral service for George F. Brist, 92, of Madison, was held at 11 a.m., Monday, November 25 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. The Rev. William Plautz of Faith Lutheran Church officiated and music was provided by organist, Judy Brist and soloist was grandson, Mitchell Brist. Interment with military honors conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council was in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls and Thomas Eder Jr. bugled taps. Casket bearers were sons, Steven and James Brist and grandsons, Mitchell, Tony and Ben Brist.
