George M. "Georgie" Corbett, 87, of Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette, died Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire.
He was born April 3, 1927 in Minneapolis to Mildred (Holberg) and George Corbett. He was raised in Minneapolis. He was employed by a scale company as a distributor in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.
George married Helen Matti on October 1, 1955 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Eau Claire. They have resided in Chippewa Falls on Lake Wissota since their marriage.
George and Helen owned and operated Wisconsin Scale Service and Distributing.
Georgie brought a ray of sunshine to everyone as he pedaled around the neighborhood. He was an example of how to live an active life at any age. We loved his smile and zest for life, safety vest and radio on as he would go by. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; three daughters, Cheryl (Mike) Connell, LeAnn (John) Nelson, Pamela (Tom) Davis all of Chippewa Falls; two sons, Scott (Cynthia) Corbett of Colorado, Bob Corbett of Chippewa Falls; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerome Corbett.
A celebration of his Georgie's life will be held from 2- 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 8 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls, followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. led by the Rev. Msgr. Mark Pierce, of Notre Dame Parish. Interment will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Hope Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
In keeping with Georgie's generous spirit, memorials may be designated to the Community Foundation of Chippewa County, PO Box 153, Chippewa Falls, WI 54729. A fund will be started in George's honor that will support the community that he so loved.
AFTERSERVICE
A memorial service for George M. Corbett was held at 4 p.m., Sunday, March 8 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Msgr. Mark Pierce officiated and the eulogy was given by son-in-law Tom Davis. Interment was Monday, March 9 at Hope Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
