SERVICE

11 a.m., Saturday, June 23 at English Lutheran Church of Bateman, 20588 County Hwy X, Chippewa Falls.

George L. Dahl, 85, of 17555 53rd Ave., Chippewa Falls, town of Lafayette, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Wissota Health Reflections in Chippewa Falls under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.

He was born March 30, 1927 in Oak Park, Ill. to Laura (Lingenfelter) and Lee W. Dahl. He was raised in Chicago and graduated from Proviso High School in 1945. He then served in the U.S. Army during WW II until being honorably discharged February 9, 1947.

George married Vivian Richman on February 13, 1954 in Berwyn, Ill. George started his electrical apprenticeship in Chicago and worked as an electrician for numerous electrical shops in the Chicago land area. In 1968 he and Vivian had enough guts to move the family up to Wisconsin in order to make a better life for their children. He worked out of the Electrical Workers IBEW Local 953 (now Local 14) for many electrical shops in this area until his retirement in 1987. Over those years he not only worked with the tools, but served on many committees, the executive board and eventually as president of the local union. He was most proud of his efforts to get a local pension started for the members. This pension now thrives and is one of the best among the area building trades. He always believed that a man could work hard, make money for a contractor and still be able to have fun, enjoy the job and the men he worked with. Ask anybody that worked with George over the years and they will agree.

George's passion was golf and loved playing at Whispering Pines in Cadott. His smiling face greeted people as they entered St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was a volunteer at the reception desk for over 10 years.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian; a daughter, Susan (Dave) Hunt of Chippewa Falls; two sons, Larry (Kathy) Dahl of Chippewa Falls, Kirk (Tami) Dahl of Altoona; ten grandchildren, Levi, Jacob (Ashley) and Gretta Hunt, Amy (Matt) Fish, Bryan (Shanna) Dahl, Laura (Ross) Tuenge, Nathan Dahl, MacKenzie, Alec and Gabrielle Dahl; eight great-grandchildren, Myles, Lydia, Simon, Henry and Martha Fish, Miah Tuenge, Jaylyn and Devin Hunt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Richard and William Dahl.

Few men that we know are gifted with the talent to excel in their profession and yet possess the ability to bring to their fellow man a cordial, easy going sense of humor. The work he performed will always remain as a living testimonial to his knowledge of the trade. When the pressure is on, there will always be that time when we, his friends will wish that he were back with them to lighten the burden of the day.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 23 at English Lutheran Church of Bateman with Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council. Interment will be in Bateman Cemetery, town of Lafayette.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m., Friday at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
