Gloria E. Horne, 86, of Chippewa Falls, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, October 16, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Gloria was born on a farm near Sand Creek on January 8, 1931, to John and Edna (Belknap) Gullickson. She attended school in Bloomer and graduated from Bloomer High School in 1949. She married Roger M. Horne at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Bloomer on May 10, 1952. After living in Tomah for a short while, they moved to Chippewa Falls where they raised their family. Together they had four children: Jeff, Randi, Kristi, and Kevin. Gloria and Roger loved children so much and raising their family was their dream vocation.
Gloria grew up in Bloomer and was active in her church’s Luther League. She loved to sing, dance, play cards, spend time with family, laugh, make lefse, and cheer for the Packers. Gloria was no stranger to adventure. She and several of her sisters travelled to Nashville in the early 70’s to see the Grand Ole Opry. In 1988, she and Roger moved to Coronado, Calif. to manage an ocean-side mansion for four years. She took many trips to visit family all across the country. The constant theme in Gloria’s life was God, love, and family. She was a daughter, a sister, a niece, a cousin, an aunt, a wife, a mother, a grandmother (always and forever known as Nana), and, above all, a Christian who practiced love and compassion. Gloria always had a smile and twinkle in her eye and she will truly be missed.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger; son, Jeff; daughter, Kristi; sisters, Leona Geissler, June O’Connell, Coral Peterson, Vearil Marcinak, and Delores Wells; and brothers, Glen Gullickson, Stafford Gullickson, and Jule Gullickson.
Gloria is survived by her daughter, Randi (Thomas) Payne of McFarland, Wis.; son, Kevin (Eric Gustin) Horne of Minneapolis, Minn.; grandson, Jesse Horne of Eau Claire; granddaughter, Megan Payne (Christopher) Crary of McFarland; daughter-in-law, Leah Horne of St. Paul, Minn.; brother, John (Donna) Gullickson of San Diego, Calif.; godchild, Julie (Ed) DePinto of Phoenix, Ariz.; very special friends, Doris Brandt of Chippewa Falls and Anne Jenson of Indianapolis, and so many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, October 19 at Central Lutheran Church, 28 E. Columbia St., Chippewa Falls.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 20 at Central Lutheran Church, with Rev. Aaron Sturgis officiating. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
