Harold Charles Garrison, USAF, Ret., age 88, of Chippewa Falls, formerly of Fairfield Glade, TN passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2017 with his wife, Beverly, her niece, Sherrie and Sherrie’s husband Doyle at his side.
He was born September 22, 1929 in Gastonia, North Carolina to Lula Ethel (Rhyne) and Gus Steven Garrison. Harold graduated from Gastonia High School in 1947 and immediately entered the U.S. Air Force.
Harry spent 28 years in the Air Force. In 1952, he was assigned to Moses Lake, Washington, 62nd Troop Carrier Wing (C-124). He flew to Alaska to supply the outposts on the Aleutian Chain, took supplies to Point Barrow, Alaska for the defense “early warning system” and took supplies to many other outposts in Alaska.
In 1956, he was sent to Washington, D.C. for training, after which he was assigned to the Embassy’s Air Attaché Office in New Delhi, India. Other Attaché two-year assignments included Burma, Mexico City, Finland, and Chad, Africa, plus a four-year assignment to Madagascar. He retired in 1975.
In 1969, while in Helskini, Finland, he met Beverly (Nein) Tupper, while she was working at the U.S. Embassy. They were married September 12, 1970 in Fort Myer, VA. They lived in Kokomo, IN from 1975 until their move to Fairfield Glade, TN in the early 1990’s. They moved to Chippewa Falls in June 2011, where Harry resided at Our House Memory Care, and to be near Beverly’s family.
Harry was a member of the Lutheran Church in Gastonia, NC, where he was baptized and confirmed, and was a member of Fairfield Glad Community Church prior to his move to Chippewa Falls. Shortly after his move, in October 2011, he became a member of Zion United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason, Master Mason affiliated with the Greentown Lodge #341 in Greentown, IN.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Beverly of Chippewa Falls; nephews, Steve Mack of Belmont, NC, John Mack of Gastonia, NC; Beverly’s niece, Sherrie (Doyle) Richards of Chippewa Falls; and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Janelle Mack.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 2 at Zion United Methodist Church, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Don Drollinger officiating. Interment with military honors presented by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will follow at Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie.
A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
