Hazel (Burgett) Sukopp, 87, passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire after a brief hospitalization.

She was born to Hazel (Vosler) and Clarence "Benjamin" Burgett on November 15, 1924 in Madison. She spent much of her childhood at her Grandma Harris' home in Shawtown, where she enjoyed fishing on the river after school.

Hazel graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1942 and was married Robert Sukopp on February 11, 1943 by Rev. Nicola Santella at the parsonage on Main Street in Eau Claire. Robert left for the U.S. Army the following week and returned home in November of 1945. Following Bob's return home from the war, they built a small home off Eddy Lane where they lived until 1954 when they moved to Lake Hallie. They resided there until the fall of 2004 when they moved to Chetek to live on Pokegama Lake with their daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Jim.

Hazel worked for Amoco Foam Products in Chippewa Falls for many years, retiring in 1995. She was a lifelong member of the North Presbyterian Church in Eau Claire and was active in the church for many years.

She loved fishing, baking and bird watching. After moving to Chetek, she enjoyed working on puzzles, playing Triple Yahtzee with her daughter and great-grandchildren, and watching the birds and wildlife in her yard. She also enjoyed many kinds of flowers and made sure she had something blooming all year around, whether outside or in her sunroom!

Hazel is survived by son, Gary Sukopp and his children, Sandi Dunn, Suzi Sukopp and Scott Sukopp; son, Steven (Gracin) Sukopp and their daughter, Brandi; daughter, Bonnie (James) Parent and their children, Jennifer Westphal, Katie Mettner and Benjamin Parent; and David's son, John Sukopp; her sisters, Donaldeen Ellis, Alice(Ellis) Lundeen; brothers, Richard and Raymond Burgett; 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons. She is further survived by step-brother, Bill Pozarski and step-sister, Ruth Steinberg.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Robert in 2005; son, David in 1968; brother, Clifford Burgett; sister, Mary Jane "Mudgie" Beldon and step-brothers, Bob and Jack Pozarski.
