Helen L. Hempelman, 93, of Chippewa Falls passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at Wissota Health in Chippewa Falls.

She was born February 22, 1923 in Chippewa Falls to Dora (Hagen) and Edward Vowinkel. She graduated from Chi-Hi, class of 1940. Following high school, Helen worked at Western Electric Ordnance Plant during WWII.

On September 26, 1943, Helen married Robert S. Hempelman at Zion Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls. They resided in Chippewa Falls where they raised their six children. Helen worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in Chippewa Falls from 1969 until her retirement in 1987.

She is survived by five children, Wayne (Elsie) Hempelman of Scottsdale, AZ, Carol (Ron) Mastrobuoni of Chippewa Falls, Rhonda (Michael) Kaphaem of Tomahawk, Lou Ann Brown of Chippewa Falls, James (Paula) Hempelman of Chippewa Falls; a brother, Carl (Mary) Vowinkel of Oconto Falls; ten grandchildren, Terry, Daniel, Michael, Chris, Lisa, Sarah, Scott, Megan, Jacqueline and Samantha; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert on June 21, 1984; a sister, Margaret Brovold; a brother, Bernard Vowinkel; and a son, Robert Hempelman on January 5, 2013.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, August 16 at Zion Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls with Rev. T. Clint Stark officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.

Helen's family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the staff of Wissota Health and to St. Joseph's Hospice for the exceptional care shown to Helen, and to their entire family.
