Helen Scott Peck, 90, of Chippewa Falls, died Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Our House Assisted Living while under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.
She was born October 2, 1923 in Chicago, IL to Jeanette (Beck) and Campbell Stewart.
Helen joined the military to honor her father who was a disabled veteran, blinded in WWI. She served in the U.S. Navy WAVES during WWII from 1943 until her honorable discharge in 1944.
On October 30, 1944, Helen married Howard F. Peck. They resided in Chippewa Falls where Helen made their home and raised their children.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Peck; a son-in-law, Luke Sonsalla, both of Chippewa Falls; a sister, Nancy Moyer of Northfield, MN; a brother, Donald (Ardie) Hopf of Chippewa Falls; three grandchildren, Polly (Carlon Young) Sonsalla of St. Paul, MN, Jeff Sonsalla of Chippewa Falls, Heather Peck of Eau Claire; great-grandchildren, Lee Jane` and Anton Sonsalla of St. Paul, MN, Drake Peck of Chippewa Falls; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard; a daughter Peggy Sonsalla; a son, Forest "Frosty" Peck; a sister, Martha Lundstrom; and a brother, Irving Stewart.
As per Helen's wishes, her body will be donated to the Mayo Clinic.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, August 16 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating. Military honors provided by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will immediately follow the service at the funeral chapel.
AFTERSERVICE:
A memorial service for Helen S. Peck, 90, of Chippewa Falls was held on Saturday, August 16 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiated and military honors were presented by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council.
As per Helen's wishes, her body was donated to the Mayo Clinic. Burial will be at a later date in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in Spooner, where she and her husband will be interred together.
