Herbert M. Steinmetz Sr., 94, of the town of Wheaton, Colfax died Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at his residence.
He was born February 25, 1924 in Cooks Valley, WI to Michael and Alvina (Urban) Steinmetz.
On September 25, 1948 he married the most beautiful girl he ever saw, Leona Blodgett, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elk Mound.
Herb worked for Pope & Talbot paper mill in Eau Claire for 37 years. He also drove commercial truck, hauling pulpwood and milk for several years.
In his spare time Herb served on the church council at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Elk Mound and loved being outdoors. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, and umping his children and grandchildren’s ball games. He also loved watching the Packers and Brewers and listening to polka music, especially Mollie B and the Big Joe Polka Show.
Herb is survived by his two sons, Herb Jr. “Butch” Steinmetz (Nancy Davis) and Ron Steinmetz, both of Albertville; two daughters, Debbie (Richard) Huerth of Albertville and Sheri (Mark) Glasener of Chippewa Falls; 10 grandchildren, Ryan (Nicole) Steinmetz, Michael Steinmetz, Matthew (Elisa) Steinmetz, Jennifer (Kenneth) Short, Jessica (Kip) Rubenzer, Monica (Richard) Blackwell, Tyrus (Melissa) Schleppenbach, Lucas Schleppenbach, Justin (Amber) Glasener, and Paige (Dan) Gephart; 15 great-grandchildren, Cody, Carmandi, Jonah, Monty, Mason, Erika, Alexa, Riley, Ava, Max, Madeline, Sam, Trace, Ellie, and Baby Gephart-on the way; five sisters, Mabel Tuschl of Colfax, Beverly Geissler of Colfax, Margie Geissler of Chippewa Falls, Shirley (Gene) Vesnefsky of Racine, and Deone (Ronald “Roscoe”) Buckli of New Auburn; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leona; grandson, Cody Steinmetz; brothers, Wilbur, Duane, and Joseph Steinmetz; sisters, Leona Tallman, and Elaine Steinmetz in infancy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 22 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Elk Mound with Fr. Joseph Nakwah officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Elk Mound.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Monday, May 21 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls and at church one hour prior to the service.
