Herman A. Skalecki, 81, of Chippewa Falls, died Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at his home.

He was born August 4, 1934 in Bellinger, WI, to Catherine (Koney) and Albert Skalecki. In 1952, he graduated from Gilman High School.

Herman joined the U.S. Marines in 1950, proudly and honorably serving his country until 1953. While stationed in Korea, he was a trained sharp shooter, earning honors for his skills. In the states, he was stationed in California and Virginia where he trained new recruits.

Once discharged, Herman moved to Chicago where he worked as a truck driver. On one of his visits back to Thorp, he attended a dance where he met his future wife, Rosemae Lukasiewicsz. The two married on September 6, 1958 and resided in Chicago, IL. Once their first child was born, the family moved to Byron, MN, where Herman's brother, Leon, was in carpet sales at Hiller Carpet. Herman joined him as a carpet installer. Herman and Leon decided to start their own business, Lee's Carpet Service, in Chippewa Falls, where they worked together for many years. Herman eventually went on his own as owner/operator of Carpet Installation Specialists in Chippewa Falls.

During this time working in Chippewa Falls, he also worked as a truck driver and a deputy for the Chippewa County Sheriff's Dept.

In his retirement, Herman enjoyed taking Rosemae on bingo runsa task he enjoyed so much that he took a driving position with Anderson House Bus Tours out of Wabasha.This gavehim and Rosemae more time together doing something they both loved. He later drove for Chippewa Trails, making casino trips and tours to other states. He also ran cars for Corner Motors in Cadott.

With his background as a sharp shooter, Herman was an avid bird & deer hunter and loved trap shooting. He enjoyed the quiet of the woods and the camaraderie of the hunt. He also loved watching girls softball games and cheering on the Green Bay Packers.

He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, the VFW, the Eau Claire Rod and Gun Club, and the "Snow-mads", a snowmobiling club.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 57 years, Rosemae Skalecki of Chippewa Falls; their three children, Louise (Merrick) Duffee of St. Louis Park, MN, Mike (Dawn) Skalecki of Savage, MN, Dennis (Lori) Skalecki of Belle Plaine, MN; a granddaughter, Madison Skalecki of Rochester, MN; a brother, Gerry (Mary Lou) Skalecki of Chippewa Falls; sisters-in-laws, Betty (Joe) Wilczek of Greenwood, Shirley (Tony) Wilczek of Chippewa Falls, Elaine Pszeniczny of Thorp; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Leon; and sister-in-law, Marge Skalecki.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 12 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with Fr. Charlie Richmond of St. Charles Borromeo, Chippewa Falls officiating. Entombment with military honors conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will follow the service at Hope Mausoleum in Chippewa Falls.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral chapel.

AFTERSERVICE:

A funeral service for Herman A. Skalecki, 81, of Chippewa Falls, was held on Saturday, September 12 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. Fr. Charlie Richmond of St. Charles Borromeo, Chippewa Falls officiated the service.

Entombment with military honors conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council was held at Hope Mausoleum in Chippewa Falls. Casket bearers were Merrick Duffee, Patrick Skalecki, Bill Henry, Ted Feisst, Ray Pszeniczny Jr. and Randy Amans.
