Howard F. Peck, 94, of Chippewa Falls, died Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Our House Memory Care in Chippewa Falls.

He was born May 12, 1919 in Clay County, Iowa to Geelka (Reeverts) and Forest Ozro Peck. He entered the US Army, serving in France and Germany during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He also served in the Wisconsin National Guard and was called to active duty from 1961-62 during the Berlin Crisis and retired as a Major.

Howard married Helen Scott Stewart on October 30, 1944 in Chippewa Falls.

Howard worked for Northern States Power Company in Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, Rice Lake, Sparta and Mondovi from 1945 retiring as a District Superintendent in 1979.

He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, the American Legion, International Brotherhood of Electric Workers and the United States Golf Association.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Peck; a daughter, Susan Peck; a son-in-law, Luke Sonsalla, all of Chippewa Falls; a sister, Joyce Soholt of Spooner; two brothers, Leonard (Jean) Peck of Chippewa Falls, Allard (Carol) Peck of Chippewa Falls; a sister-in-law, Arlene Peck of Strawberry Point, Iowa; three grandchildren, Polly (Carlon Young) Sonsalla of St. Paul, MN, Jeff Sonsalla of Chippewa Falls, Heather Peck of Eau Claire; great-grandchildren, Lee Jane` and Anton Sonsalla of St. Paul, MN, Drake Berg of Chippewa Falls; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Peggy Sonsalla; a son, Forest "Frosty" Peck; two brothers, Willard Peck and G. Richard Peck.

As per Howard's wishes, his body will be donated to the Mayo Clinic.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, October 5 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating. Military honors provided by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will immediately follow the service at the funeral chapel.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral chapel.

Burial will be at a later date in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Cemetery in Spooner.

Old soldiers never die, they just fade away.

AFTERSERVICE

A memorial service for Howard F. Peck, 94, of Chippewa Falls, was held at 3 p.m., Saturday, October 5 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. The Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiated and military honors were conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council. Interment will be at a later date at Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spooner.
