Irma I. Blizek, 79, of Chippewa Falls, Village of Lake Hallie, died Monday, February 6, 2017 at Dove Healthcare South in Eau Claire after a short battle with cancer.
She was born September 16, 1937 in Chippewa County, the daughter of Camelia (Vlasnik) and Edward Hickethier. She graduated from Cadott High School, Class of 1955. Following high school, Irma worked as a clerk for Miller's Drug Store in Cadott.
On June 11, 1960, Irma married Rene F. Blizek. They lived in Hudson for a short time before moving to Chippewa Falls, where they had resided since. Irma worked in the office at Mason Shoe Co. for more than 25 years and as a Cook for the Chippewa School District until her retirement.
Irma and Rene loved spending time and creating memories at their lake home on Sand Lake for more than 30 years. Irma was well known for her brownies, cookies and rhubarb pie that she loved to share. She was always ready for the next adventure whether it was going to craft sales, thrift sales, Warrens Cranberry Festival, eating out with friends, trips to the casino or riding along wherever anyone else was going. She enjoyed reading, word search puzzles, feeding the birds, and gardening. Some of her favorite things in life included her family, friends, warm weather, duct tape, cats, coffee and donuts. Donuts will be served at the funeral.
She is survived by her son, Tim (Shirley) Blizek; daughter, Marilyn (Scott) Smith; and grandson, Ryan Smith, all of Chippewa Falls; nieces, Amy Rubenzer and Sue (Lewis) Yetter; great niece and nephews, Brady and Brooke Wilder, and Austin Yetter; along with many close friends, relatives and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws Frank and Amelia (Bourget) Blizek ; her husband Rene in February 2003; brother-in-law Henry Rubenzer in October 2015; and her sister Kay Rubenzer in August 2016.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 10 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Robert B. Hoekstra officiating. Interment will follow at Brooklawn Cemetery, Cadott.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral chapel. The family is honoring Irma's wishes for the visitation and services to be held on one day.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be given to the many local organizations Irma held close to her heart.
