Isobel, S. Thon, 93, of Chippewa Falls, village of Lake Hallie, died Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at Chippewa Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation in Chippewa Falls.
Sara Isobel Fletcher was born June 12, 1920 in Shawville, Quebec, Canada. She was the second oldest of ten children born to Edith (Hobbs) and Willis Fletcher. The family later moved to Ottawa, Ontario. Isobel served in the Canadian Womens Army Corps during WWII. She was honorably discharged on April 3, 1946.
During a visit to her aunt in Chippewa Falls, Isobel met the love of her life, John L. Thon. They were married in Ottawa, Canada on March 9, 1946. They resided in Cornell for many years, and then moved to Chippewa Falls. She worked in food service at the Northern Center for ten years. Her hobbies were reading and doing crossword puzzles.
Survivors include two sons, Bill (Kate) Thon of Martinez, CA, John (Sandy) Thon of Eau Claire; two daughters, Edythe (Alan) Etlicher of Chippewa Falls, Becky (Dennis) Shuman of Little Elm, Texas; five grandchildren, Sara Laris, Charlotte Hicks, Amanda Etlicher, Jason Thon and Holly Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Isabella and Kiana Hering, Liam Johnson, and Alexa and Amelia Laris; three sisters, Clara Webb, Elsie Balfour and Lila Sinfield; three brothers, Ernie (Ruth), Clifford (Kathleen) Fletcher, Stu (Bev) Fletcher. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Margaret Bluma, Marcy McCully, Cecelia (John) Globensky, Catherine (Bob) Burns; and brothers-in-law, Gerald (Sharon) Thon, Raymond (Mary) Thon; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John on February 28, 2008; three brothers, Bill, Jack and Bert.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 21 at the Chapel of the Resurrection at the Chippewa Manor with the Rev. Robert Hoekstra officiating. Interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery, village of Lake Hallie.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the Chippewa Manor Chapel.
The family wishes to thank the staff at the Chippewa Manor for the excellent care given to Isobel during her residence there.
