Robert and June Young welcomed Jack Robert Young into this world on January 27, 1960. He went “home” on May 28, 2024, to be reunited with his mom, dad, and brothers.
Jack was the youngest of five boys in the Young family. He thrived at home with his parents and brothers, and his parents were strong advocates for him and other children with Down Syndrome. His mother, June, was instrumental in mainstreaming special needs children into the public school system.
Jack graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1981 and started his career at Chippewa River Industries shortly after graduation. After 42 years of working, Jack retired in April 2023. CRI was a second family to Jack, and he loved going to work with a different Pink Floyd t-shirt every day and his “shades” to see his friends and staff. He did not care for that darn cardboard, though!
When Jack was younger, he was involved in Boy Scouts, Special Olympics, and Lions Camp. He enjoyed music, playing his guitar, drawing pictures on his white board, swimming, bowling, camping with the family, fishing, cheering for the Green Bay Packers, and forecasting the weather while drinking a nice cold Coca-Cola. He especially loved drawing on his doodle board in his later years. He knew every country song at one time, then switched to rock, becoming an avid Pink Floyd fan.
Jack was loving and had a great smile and sense of humor. Jack loved getting and giving hugs. He was still smiling even when he was in pain. He never complained, but he could be stubborn and sassy, just like his name-sake, “Pa” (Jack) Plummer.
Jack was loved by his family and his extended families, who he lived with after his mom could no longer care for him. Thank you, Dorothy Fredrickson, Mike and Jody Duce and family, and The Agape Adult Family home in Menomonie, with Tom, Kali, Brandi, Faith, Heather, Mari, and Rose for caring for our Jack. You all showed Jack love and respect, which is what everyone deserves. Jack’s family would also like to thank the caring team members with Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice.
Jack is survived by his brother, Terry (Sally); sister-in-law, Peggy Young; nephews, Pat Young (Aimee Mikl), and Ryon; nieces, Jessica Walker (Jim), Annette Young (Brent Vanlandingham), Kya Marking (Michael), Kari Knutson (LeRoy), and Kacie Schenk (Brad), along with several great-nieces and nephews, and a great-great niece and nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Pat, Nick, and Lynn; nephew, Kevin; and niece, Jennifer.
Rock on in Heaven, Jack. We will miss you, but we are happy that you are with your mom and dad and “bruders” again.
Visitation will be held from 9 – 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 4 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Prairie View Cemetery in the village of Lake Hallie.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to donor’s choice.
