James A. "Jim" Kurth, 83, of Chippewa Falls, town of Eagle Point, died Monday, February 13, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born December 18, 1928 in Eau Claire to Minnie (Stai) and Walter Kurth. He grew up in Eau Claire and after moving to Chippewa Falls, graduated from Chi-Hi in 1947.
Following high school, Jim served in the U.S Air Force. After his honorable discharge from the military, he began working for the Soo Line Railroad. He retired from the railroad in 1989, after working there for 40 years. In his retirement, Jim enjoyed gardening and baking cakes and cookies for his family and friends.
He was a member of The Masonic Lodge.
He married Marcella Konecny on June 1, 1955 in Chippewa Falls. The couple had resided in Chippewa Falls since that time.
In Jim's younger days, he played football for the Chippewa Marines. He was proud that at one time, their team played the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella of Chippewa Falls; a son, Steve (Niki) Kurth; two granddaughters, Rachel and Lily, all of Eau Claire; two sisters-in-law, Esther Kurth of Chippewa Falls, Diane Kurth of Spokane, WA; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lois Ann, in infancy; and three brothers, Duane, Desmond and Lamoine.
A private family graveside service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Chippewa Falls.
