James H. "Jim" Larson, 82, of Chippewa Falls, formerly of Montrose, Minnesota, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at the Rutledge Home in Chippewa Falls.

He was born October 2, 1932 in Minneapolis to Cora (Olson) and Herbert S. Larson. He attended the University of Minnesota and then Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis. He proudly enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 and served honorably until 1955.

Jim married Mary Lou Engman on December 16, 1961. They resided in Golden Valley, Montrose and Buffalo, Minnesota until moving to Chippewa Falls in October 2014.

He was an avid car collector who attended countless car shows over the years and had as many as 42 cars at one time, which included his pride and joy, a 1957 Dodge Coronet. He loved to drive and was always ready to hop in the car to go anywhere! Jim was very patriotic and respected his country, a quality that he taught his children and grandchildren. A proud and lifetime member of the NRA, he enjoyed his collection of guns and enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren about gun safety and respect.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Mary Lou; daughter, Susan (Joe) Brandt of Chippewa Falls; son, Steven Larson of Rush City, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law, Laurel Engman of Minneapolis, and Becky (Mark) Giestefeld of Duluth, Minnesota; two brothers-in-law, Tim (Suzanne) Engman, and Charles (Dialynn) Engman, all of Wayzata, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; Kellsie (Jason) Zwiefelhofer, Deena (Justin Bowe) Reister, Emily (Grant Johnson) Larson, Griffin Brandt, Garrett, Devan and Brodrick Larson; two great-grandchildren, Ashton and Isabella Zwiefelhofer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Larson; and two brothers-in-law, Robert and Richard Engman.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with Rev. Aaron Sturgis, Central Lutheran Church, Chippewa Falls officiating.

Military honors conducted by the Chippewa Falls Patriotic Council will immediately follow the service at the funeral chapel.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel.

Jim's family would like to extend a special thank you to their grandchildren, nieces and nephews, Jenny and Charlie Cogbill, Richard and Abby Engman, and sister-in-law Laurel Engman for their willingness to help when needed, especially for helping Mary Lou and Jim with their recent move to Chippewa Falls.
