SERVICE

4 p.m., Sunday, September 28 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel.

James A. Rood, 76, of Chippewa Falls, village of Lake Hallie, died Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital in Madison.

He was born July 13, 1938 in Eau Claire to Eunice (Coss) and Thomas Rood.

On November 26, 1958, he married Phyllis Dunn.

Jim worked as a mechanic until 1976. Due to failing eyesight, he went to school in Wausau from 1976-78 and became a computer programmer. After graduation, he worked for two years for Wausau Insurance, then moved to Madison where he worked as a programmer analyst for the University of Wisconsin Extension until retiring in 2001. He then moved back to Chippewa Falls to be near family.

Jim was a loving husband, son, brother and friend. He had a great sense of humor and liked to make people laugh. He liked everyone he met and was honest and trustworthy. He will be missed by many.

He enjoyed books, reading over 2000 in his lifetime; listening to country music; and always looked forward to the next hunting or fishing trip. He hunted in a disable hunt and had a gun with a laser. A sighted guide went along and would set the barrel of the gun until the laser was on the deer, then Jim would shoot. Last year, he got a six point buck!

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Phyllis of Hallie; two sisters, Joanne Marion of Eau Claire, Joyce (Joe) Hoover of Altoona; a brother, Richard (Myrna) Rood of Janesville; sisters-in-law, Sonja Gardner, Linda (Jim) Goss, all of Chippewa Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, September 28 at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls with Pastor Robert Stevens of Bridgewater Baptist Church officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service Sunday at the funeral chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bridgewater Baptist Church.
