June W. LaNou, 97, of Chippewa Falls, formerly of Jim Falls, passed into heaven on Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at St. Joseph's Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born June 30, 1919 in Chippewa Falls to William and Winifred Morey of Jim Falls. She grew up on a farm east of Jim Falls with three sisters. She went to grade school in Anson, and graduated from Chippewa Falls Senior High School in 1937.
June met Edward LaNou in Jim Falls at a filling station when Ed was filling the tires in her father's Whippit and he later told us that he was smitten by those big brown eyes. Soon after, they began dating and married in 1938. They were married for 74 years when Edward passed away in 2012, having gone on many wonderful vacations exploring our United States. In 2001, she had a special trip to England and Scotland with her daughter, where she toured her grandparent's homeland.
June loved life and everyone she met. She had a gift of gab that only Ed could wonder at because he was the quiet one. She moved into the Chippewa Manor Retirement Center in 2012, and loved every day there. She was either related to someone there, knew them as friends, or got to know them very quickly. She became involved in the many activities there and made wonderful friends. Her happiest times were when she was helping others.
During her younger years, she was a very talented seamstress and made several prom dresses plus her daughter's wedding dress. Not being an idle person, she was either sewing; knitting; doing counted cross-stitch with which she won the grand prize at the Northern WI State Fair many years ago; doing crosswords; or baking some goodies for the family and friends.
She was a faithful member of the Jim Falls United Methodist Church since 1945, where for many years she was active on committees and the United Methodist Women. Being active in missions, she earned the Special Mission Recognition pin from the UMW.
June is survived by her daughter, Carole (Jerome) Frederick of Chippewa Falls; three sons, Gary (Mary) LaNou of Chippewa Falls, Ken (Donna) LaNou of Bella Vista, Arkansas, and Don (Roberta) LaNou of Jim Falls; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mabel Daniels of Eau Claire; brothers-in-law, Robert LaNou of Tomahawk, Norman LaNou of Eau Claire; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; two children in infancy; three sisters, Leone Hautamaki, Evelyn Schirmacher, and Wilma Konechney.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 18 at Jim Falls United Methodist Church with Revs. Jason Kim and Robert B. Hoekstra officiating. Interment will be in Copp Cemetery, town of Anson.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday evening at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, Chippewa Falls and one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
Memorials in June's honor may be directed to the Chippewa Manor Retirement Center, Irvine Park or the charity of your choice.
