Kay L. Krumenauer, 71, of La Crosse, formerly of Chippewa Falls, died Friday, July 24, 2015 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse.

Kay was born September 8, 1943 in Chippewa Falls to Lois and Paul Krumenauer. She graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1961, and continued her education at UW-La Crosse, receiving her Master's Degree in Recreational Therapy. She worked with children at St. Michael's Children's Home in La Crosse before moving to Chicago and working at the State Hospital in recreational therapy. Upon returning to La Crosse she was a hostess at Country Kitchen where she made many lifelong friends. Later she worked at ORC (Occupational Rehabilitation Center) helping place people in various jobs. Her most recent position was Activities Director at Lakeview Health Care Center in West Salem, from which she retired.

Throughout the years Kay enjoyed 4-H, riding horse, helping with the Irish Reunion, working for the good of others, and sharing in the lives of her nephews and great-nieces.

Later in her life, Kay faced many medical battles but she always managed to bounce back with an amazing attitude. She made many friends and always took an interest in the lives of others. Her love for her family and horses seemed to keep her going forward. She enjoyed traveling with her longtime companion, Galen. Together they took classes and attended La Crosse Logger's baseball games frequently. With Galen always by her side, taking care of her in her time of need, she was able to live a very full and happy life. Kay will live on in our hearts and memories forever.

Kay is survived by her special friend, Galen Olson of La Crosse; brother, Dick (Marilyn) Krumenauer of Chippewa Falls; nephews, Kris, Luke (Brooke) and Russ Krumenauer; and great-nieces, Hollie, Amy and Harlow Krumenauer.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, July 31 at St. Bridget's Catholic Church, 2801 North 110th Ave, Chippewa Falls (Town of Seymour) with Fr. Justin Kizewski officiating.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Dialysis Unit at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center.
