LaVern Steinke

LaVern V. Steinke, 76, 13674 93rd Ave., Chippewa Falls, town of Eagle Point, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at the Cornell Area Care Center in Cornell after a long struggle with Alzheimer's.

He was born March 11, 1934 in Mondovi to Erna (Banks) and Victor Steinke. He graduated from Mondovi High School in 1952.

LaVern married Phyllis L. Strehlau on April 28, 1956 at St. Katherine's Lutheran Church in Menomonie.

He served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri, San Antonio, Texas and also served in the National Guard getting called up to Ft. Lewis, Wash. during the Berlin Crisis in 1961.

LaVern was employed at Peter's Meats in Chippewa Falls, Armour's in Eau Claire, Eau Claire Technical College and then worked as a salesman at Weigand Ford Sales in Chippewa Falls for many years. He was a hunter and a fisherman who took fishing trips to Canada with his brother-in-law, Gordon Strehlau and nephew, Duane Patridge. He loved to dance, watch the Packers and travel.
