LaVerne Martha Roegge, 93, of Chippewa Falls, died Monday, November 3, 2014 at Chippewa Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation, Chippewa Falls.
She was born March 12, 1921 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Frieda (Jenrich) and Elmer Nehring. She grew up in Milwaukee and graduated from South Division High School in 1939.
In 1942, LaVerne married Robert (Buzz) Barton. LaVerne moved to Washington D.C. to be near Buzz who was serving in the US Navy. While there she worked for the British Foreign Service. She moved back to Milwaukee to be near family before the birth of their daughter Carol Ann in 1944. In 1944, Robert preceded LaVerne in death several months after the birth of their daughter Carol Ann.
During her sister's wedding, LaVerne was introduced to William Roegge. The two were united in marriage in 1947 and together had three children. In 1962 the family moved to Chippewa Falls where Bill began a career with Mason Shoe, LaVerne began a career volunteering, and they raised their children.
LaVerne was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Chippewa Falls where she was active in the choir until very recently and a faithful member and past president of the United Methodist Women. In 1975, LaVerne was the chairperson of the tenth annual Spring Art Show which was held at Trinity United Methodist Church at that time. LaVerne was also a member and past president of Chapter AB P.E.O. Sisterhood and a mentor in the Chippewa Falls School District for many years.
LaVerne was a creator. Over the years, loved ones gratefully received handmade quilts, knitted items, and clever greeting cards, always made with care and love. She also appreciated the challenge of a good puzzle or game and regularly played bridge with friends. She played the piano her entire life, taking piano lessons again in later years. LaVerne enjoyed music, books, a good laugh, and most importantly, time spent with family that she adored. Her zest for life was contagious, and she will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her children, Carol Ann Rheingans of Port Washington, William (Rita) Roegge of Kenosha, Nancy (Bill) Febry of Chippewa Falls, Judith (Gary) Zamorsky of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren, Karen Rheingans, Tracey (Justin) Lennon, Erin (Jeremy) Kell, Ellen (Jonny) Macias, Carling (Ryan) McLaughlin; five great-grandchildren, William, Henry and Thomas Kell, Jacob Macias, and Rosalie McLaughlin. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert in 1944, her second husband, William in 1994; her sister, Jeanne Glueck; her brother, James Nehring; and her son-in-law, Jerry Rheingans.
A celebration of LaVerne's life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 7 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 201 W. Central St., Chippewa Falls with the Rev. Terri Koca officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.
Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday at Pederson-Volker, Chippewa Falls and one hour prior to the service Friday, at the church.
